Over 35s Cup celebration

Women's Over-35 Competitions

New sessions now confirmed in Brampton.

Following the success of the first ever Women’s Over 35 competition in Cumberland, we’re keen to keep the ball rolling and have added two extra dates for the coming season.

Football Development Officer Helen Aitchison said: “The new dates are festival events rather than a competition, as we aim to get more women involved and more teams entering to come along, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy playing football. Whether players are returning to the game after a period of retirement or are new to the game, we want to encourage more women to get onto the pitch – because football isn’t just a young person’s game!

The camaraderie we have seen amongst the women playing has been phenomenal and we want to continue to build up a network of women who just want to play the game, when they can at their own pace.”

In the recent competition, the starting line-up of teams consisted of groups of friends, a couple of Walking Football teams (the first two ever affiliated in Cumberland), a team ‘reforming’ after a number of years away, squads built from England Football Just Play Centres, with Cumbria Fire also represented.

Calling ALL YOUTH CLUBS – it would be fantastic to see the mums, sisters, aunties, grannies etc of their young footballer’s step over the sidelines and onto the pitch to play some football! We’re asking ALL Clubs in the county to share this information across their members to spread the word about the Women’s Over 35 game!

In keeping with the Men’s Over-35 rules, each squad of eight are able bring along a youngster (18+ and under-35) to play in goal.

You do not have to be part of an existing team to enter - anyone can enter a team!
